Escape from the Ninth Circle – The Precarious Ascent

The force of Judas’s punch reverberated through Michael’s celestial countenance, causing him to reel backward in a most un-archangelic fashion. The demons, witnessing their commander’s momentary disorientation, wavered in their collective resolve. It was in this instant that Judas, channeling the very essence of improbable heroics that typify the human spirit, seized the opportunity to exploit the situation to its fullest.

With the agility of a gazelle and the strength of a thousand oxen—or at least an astonishingly impressive facsimile thereof—Judas hurled himself into the teetering mass of demonic and angelic beings. His momentum carried him forward, driving the whole lot of them back through the door and out over the edge just beyond. It was, upon reflection, a rather surprising oversight on the part of the Almighty, who, in all Her infinite wisdom, had somehow neglected to install a railing or any other safety measures that would have met OSHA standards.

As the horde of celestial and infernal creatures tumbled into the abyss, Judas and Michael, locked in their fierce struggle, went tumbling over the edge as well. Judas glanced up at his comrades, a serene smile lighting his face as he realized that his sacrifice would grant them the opportunity to escape. His eyes locked with Lucifer’s for a brief moment, conveying a silent message of farewell.

“No!” Lucifer cried out, reaching for Judas in desperation. But Brutus and Cassius, knowing that it was already too late, pulled their leader back from the precipice. The fallen angel’s arm fell limply to his side, the weight of the loss hitting him like a ton of bricks.

As Judas and Michael disappeared from sight, swallowed by the darkness below, Lucifer, Brutus, and Cassius turned away from the edge. Their hearts heavy, they knew they had to make their escape. They entered the back door Judas had spotted earlier, which led them through a lovely kitchenette. Despite the somber circumstances, they couldn’t help but appreciate the tasteful decor that greeted them. It was a bittersweet reminder that, even in the midst of sorrow and loss, there remained moments of unexpected beauty and comfort.

Together, the trio continued their escape, their hearts aching for the friend they had lost, but also filled with gratitude for the gift of freedom he had given them through his selfless act. And though their journey was far from over, they carried with them the memory of Judas, whose courage had defied the odds and changed the course of their fate.

To be continued…

Until next time, Faithful Adventurers.
